INTERNSHIP Role:   Digital Communications Assistant

Responsible to:          Head of Tourism and Events

Responsible for:         Promoting the cathedral’s work through written words, use of digital media, social networking and through our forums and meetings. The successful candidate will provide key support to the Senior Management Team.

Please note this is an unpaid Internship for a duration of nine months. The successful candidate will work on a part time basis and there will be flexible working hours available.

Church Cathedral (founded c.1028) is the spiritual heart of the city, and one of the top visitor attractions in Dublin. The Cathedral is also popular as a venue for concerts, graduation ceremonies and other events.

 

Job Description

Purpose of Role: We are seeking an enthusiastic, charismatic individual who will have a key role in both digital and written communications.

Areas of Responsibility

Communications

·        Creating, adapting and sourcing material to keep our website constantly up to date

·        Developing and maintaining our strong social media presence

·        Researching and writing press releases and articles, as required

·        Writing and adapting reports for public distribution as necessary

·        Sub editing and proof reading

·        Communications and PR support for conferences, seminars and meetings

·        Developing and maintaining a database of images, designs and illustrations

·        Liaising with service providers, designers and printers on outsourced projects

·        Assisting with print production (internally and externally).

 

·        Developing social media campaigns, strategies and schedules in conjunction with relevant staff.

 

·        Generate​ ​exciting​ ​ideas​ ​for​ ​competitions​ ​and​ ​activations​ ​and​ ​assist​ ​in​ ​implementing these.

 

Other duties

·        Work to agreed priorities with all members of the SMT

·        Understand and work within the ethos and values of Christ Church Cathedral, acting in a professional and ethical way at all times when representing the organisation.

 

Person Specification

Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential

·        A degree in a relevant discipline (e.g. Communications, Media, PR, Journalism, Humanities). A degree in another field with relevant professional experience in a communications-related environment may be considered.

·        Excellent computer skills across common suites such as Microsoft, as well as proficiency in common web platforms such as WordPress.

 

·        Strong working proficiency in professional design and multimedia software packages such as InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator etc.

 

Desirable

·        Experience in strategic planning of communications through a variety of media

·        Knowledge of editorial use of photography and images

·        Practical knowledge of professional design and multimedia software packages for example InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator or equivalent

·        Video – experience using a GoPro or similar and editing the footage for digital marketing purposes

·        Some knowledge of coding languages and a general interest in solving problems in web platforms.

Relevant Experience

•       Experience of using social media to promote events and retain audiences

·        Experience of maintaining and developing content for websites

•       Experience of adapting written content for a specific audience
