Down Syndrome Ireland (DSI) is the national charity for people with Down syndrome and their families in Ireland, supporting over 3,500 members across 25 branches nationwide.  Down Syndrome Ireland is dedicated to being Ireland’s primary source of expertise, support and information to people with Down syndrome, their families and the professional community. We are working to achieve an optimal quality of life for people with Down syndrome, as equally valued, independent citizens.


DSI is currently recruiting for a Digital Communications Officer to join its small team working in the organisation’s national office in Dublin. The successful candidate will have a love of all things digital and is expert in creating compelling content for websites, multiple social media channels, email newsletters and other digital communications tools. They will also assist the Fundraising Team to promote fundraising events and campaigns.


Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage and content editor of the charity’s website (WordPress)
  • Manage development improvements to the charity’s website, keep abreast and advise of developments in the digital arena; identify new digital opportunities
  • Content editor and digital content creator for multiple social media channels, including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube and Instagram
  • Issue the charity’s weekly e-newsletter and offer your expertise on email marketing best practice to maximise the impact of these emails
  • Create and design videos to promote the work of the charity
  • Develop a range of promotional materials
  • Management of analytical tools such as Google Analytics and Webmaster Tools
  • Any other duties as designated by the Head of Communications and Public Affairs


Person Specification / Required Skills and Knowledge:

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent in relevant area
  • Minimum 1 / 2 years’ relevant experience in communication or digital marketing role
  • Excellent writing skills; must have digital copywriting and copy-editing experience
  • Experience using WordPress CMS platform is essential
  • Content production expertise is required along with using tools like photoshop and video/audio editing tools
  • Expertise in SEO, Google Analytics, Google Adwords, Facebook Ads (including fundraising through Facebook) and LinkedIn advertising channels
  • Strong networking capabilities, ability to build and maintain key relationships
  • Proven English copywriting and editing skills
  • Demonstrate a real passion for social media and digital technology trends
  • Flexibility in work arrangements – the role involves occasional out of hours and weekend work
  • An understanding and empathy for the mission and work of Down Syndrome Ireland


  • Hold a digital marketing qualification
  • Basic experience in graphic design highly desirable


  • Full time permanent position subject to standard probationary period of 6 months
  • Salary: Competitive salary based on experience
